The Allen Adventure app is an interactive story to help children learn about how to tell how others are feeling, how to get on with others and how to deal with difficult social situations. (Read more about the story at About The Allen Adventure). The free app for available for both iPad and Android tablets. The Allen Adventure app also links to the information for educators and parents on this site at Starting in early childhood.

Allen solves a problem is a resource for introducing problem-solving skills to children from 3 to 8 years of age. It includes the Allen solves a problem template (PDF,1MB), Word version (DOCX, 1MB) and guidelines for early childhood educators and parents (PDF, 613KB), Word version (DOCX, 578KB). Allen solves a problem provides a structure for talking with young children about how to work out what to do if they have a social problem or conflict.

Lesson plans

The Allen Adventure lesson plans have been developed for early childhood educators based on the story of The Allen Adventure. These lesson plans promote social and emotional development and pro-social behaviour and provide opportunities for learning skills and discussing the importance of getting on with each other.

The Allen Adventure in the classrom video features a teacher working with students in the first year of formal schooling and discussing how the story can be extended within the everyday activities.

Booklets

The Allen Adventure booklets (set of four booklets) provide the story of each chapter of The Allen Adventure and can be used on their own or with the app or lesson plans. Print these documents on A4 paper. Select 'booklet' in 'paper sizing and handling' settings. Fold and staple on the fold, and trim edges to create a booklet.

Postcards

The Allen Adventure postcardsThe Allen Adventure postcards have been created to use with young children. The postcards show scenes from The Allen Adventure story. Young children can draw themselves into the pictures and show what they might do if they were in the same situation as Allen and the other characters.

The Allen Adventure postcards can also be downloaded individually in large sizes in digital formats to draw on with an electronic painting program. Use one of the free paint programs available.
