About the NDA

The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA) is held annually. It is an opportunity for the whole school community to 'take a stand together' against bullying and violence.

The day is an initiative of all Australian education authorities and is managed by the Safe and Supportive School Communities Working Group.

The first National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence was held on 18 March 2011 and continues to grow every year.

As we reflect on the 10th anniversary of the program, school communities across the nation can be proud of creating a legacy, as drivers of Australia's National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.

Impact of the NDA on schools

The Shape the Future of the NDA Survey analysed the impact of participation in the NDA on schools with 1–2 years, 3–4 years and 5–7 years involvement.

It found schools that participated in the NDA reported positive changes in student skills, knowledge and actions, most notably a greater understanding of what bullying is and how to respond to it.

Staff were found to be more proactive in bullying prevention and more able to respond to bullying. Schools also reported that the NDA helped create a more positive school climate.

The survey found the longer schools are involved in the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, the stronger the results. The Benefits for schools: impacts of the NDA, summarises the results of the Shape the Future of the NDA Survey.

To celebrate the partnership between schools and the NDA a number of NDA Spotlight School case studies have been created, to share the successes of schools with a strong record of participation in the NDA.
